Social and Corporate Responsibility Social and Corporate Responsibility

The first community activities took place when Atento was organized in 1999, basically composed of volunteer activities, integration of the handicapped, and setting up call centers for assistance in catastrophes. As the company grew, Corporate Responsibility practices began to develop and to acquire a more strategic nature, at the same time that specific management bodies began to operate and mechanisms were created to dialogue with interest groups.

Atento’s leadership in sustainability issues has been recognized by Centro Mexicano para la Filantropía (CEMEFI) and by Alianza por la Responsabilidad Social (AliaRSE), which acknowledged with the Socially Responsible Company award (ESR) Atento’s operations in Mexico, Brazil, El Salvador, Guatemala, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Peru, and Venezuela. Hence, 9 out of 10 Atento employees work under a socially responsible operation pursuant to CEMEFI criteria.

The year 2009 was an important milestone for Atento’s social responsibility, making it the first company in the field of BPO/CRM to publish a sustainability memo under the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Atento took one more step in that direction in 2010, as it became the first contact center company to have a sustainability memo certified by a third party.
